Arial view years before the flood. Two days after the crest across the street. Our house is the gray one after the water receeded by about 20 inches. The photos to the left give a frame of reference.

Lisa talking to "aunt" Pat while standing in front of one of our new livingroom windows. Leigha's bedroom needs only a few finishing touches after Virginia, Bob's sister, painted the room. One Saturday we had a ceiling party where several helped put up the ceilings and eat pizza. My online friends who hang out at an audio forum knew that one of my better guitars was destroyed in the flood.
They took up a collection and bought me this Gretsch which is a guitar I've wanted since I was 12. Incredibly
generous of them - it deeply touched me. We are almost finished rebuilding the walls for Leigha's bedroom. Liegha's bedroom is getting drywalled. Lisa put most of the insulation in herself. She did an awesome job. This was Lisa and Bob's bedroom but will become Leigha's Lisa, a bit numb, as she looks at the house from what used to be our kitchen. The house is almost completely gutted. We later removed most of the lathing strips. Leigha was working hard to knock out a mold filled wall. It will take more than Tide to clean that! All of our possessions were warped and permiated with the fine silt. The odor was horrid! For several weeks damaged possessions were hauled to the curb and removed by the town periodically. Sometimes there was so much garbage the streets were barely useable There was so much flood debris and it was so contaminated with sewage that town workers used machinery to collect it and never touched it with their hands. This Sound Chisel studio equipment has lost both its sound and its edge. Every house for several blocks had a pile outside. When the town halled debris away in the morning, by evening the piles grew right back. These computer monitors have started their own forum. We had a total of 8 computer monitors that were under water. The mud that settled on all surfaces was thick and an extremely fine silt. The bathtub was filled with mud and silt and the tiled wall behind it collapsed. The steps into the basement led to a muddy mess. Bob's number 2 guitar, a neck-thru-body strat, was cracked and warped. The gutted electronics were rusted as was the hardware. Bob's dresser and its contents were lost. Bob refinished the dresser a year previous. The night time view of our possessions at the curb was so much more than cold. The top of Leigha's bed was 20 inches below the flood line! Lisa's brand new dresser tipped over and was destroyed with all its contents. Leigha's computer desk collapsed. Four days after the crest, this view of the front porch was what we saw the first time upon entering the house.

Currently we are still working on the house and studio, but the major rebuilding is complete. The house was reduced to bare studs and joists with external siding. Although we did receive aide from FEMA, NY State Department of labor disaster relief grant, the Red Cross and several thoughtful gifts, this only covered about a third of the total loss. We are supposedly located above the flood plane. Nonetheless, we obtained structure and content flood insurance so that if this ever happens again we can simply leave. With angst we parted with tens of thousands of dollars to rebuild our home and livelihood.

Part of Bob's income came from editing audio and video on his Digital Audio and Video Workstation. But the Sound Chisel studio was reduced to a mere concept. The studio was fully destroyed. Bob placed the studio back on line in late 2008. Radical remodeling involuntarily while underemployed is difficult to say the least.

After rebuilding the structure, then we had to think about obtaining contents such as a refrigerator, kitchen utensils, a stove, living room furniture, dining room furniture, bedroom furniture, and countless other things. Filling the house with these necessities will take some time.

We so deeply appreciate all who have touched our lives during our nightmare. Even when someone else simply knows what we have gone through it brings us comfort.

A few photos of our journey through the months after the flood.
