About
the SOUND CHISEL:
The SOUND CHISEL (SC) is
a project recording
studio, used primarily by session musician, college
professor and voice
over talent, Bob Greaves and a few of his
personal clients. It is an easy on your
budget production service.
You
can contact Sound Chisel by ...
- email, yep that's it in the lower left
hand corner.
- Snail Mail: SOUND CHISEL, 3203 Verdun
Ave. , Endwell, NY 13760
- phone: (607) 786-5062
A common question I get is,
"What is a 'project studio'?" A project
studio is not a full service studio. Unlike
larger (and more expensive) studios, SC maintains
only the equipment required to accomplish specific types
of projects. For example, the SC has room to record multiple
voices simultaneously, but not
to simultaneously record an entire rock band. Occasionally related
services are completed in partnership with other
studios.

Bob Greaves and his
wife, Lisa enjoying a pleasant afternoon in the
Thousand Island area on Lake Ontario.
"I started playing the guitar at the age
of six. By the age of 16 I began experimenting with
an open real stereo tape recorder, bouncing
tracks back and forth to create multiple layers.
Music and the related
technology have always come easy for me, perhaps
because I find it to be so much fun."
Bob has a varied educational background
including studies in Computer Programming,
Accounting, Linguistics and Human Development. As a strong advocate
of continuing education the SC was frequently visited
by college students as part of their media arts
course work. Eventually Bob was sought out by two area colleges
to teach courses on music software and sound
engineering. Today Bob teaches sound engineering
and music software at Broome Community College. |

A brief history of Sound
Chisel:
Bob received his first guitar
at the age of six on Christmas day 1957. Within two days he
was playing several Christmas songs by ear.
Since that day the guitar has been a common
fixture around his neck. You can click to
enlarge the pictures.

Below, Don Glover playing a Regent guitar and
Bob Greaves playing a Gretsch Corsair at a high
school dance in 1965. Notice that after 8 years
Bob is still using yarn to strap his guitar to
his neck!
